These are photos from my Trip to Chile in Summer of 2008
These are photos from my 3rd trip to my birth home in Chile, this was to be the first time I would be there with my Mum Laura, a trip that would be an emotional roller coaster, first of all as I love my mum and being there together and also know what she’s like. I found a lot of things about my mum on this trip.
At Uni, Sydney College of the Arts, we were first encouraged to shoot first ask questions later, this is we call street photography and the trick to that is that you, try and see things ahead of time. that a great motto and idea, if not for the fact that film was very expensive back then, so I didn’t drink only at parties ….. luckily for us we developed all our rolls of Black and White or colour, yes colour, in both 35mm and medium format, one of the only schools in Sydney that had it’s own Colour lab, and had a great automatic colour printer, The Kreonite, which could print up to 50cm in width, and as long as you like.
So I loved that, we could shoot as much as we could , develop and test your skills using your camera, in capturing light to capture the moment.
“back to the future”, these days you could shoot the equivalent of 20 rolls of 36x 35mm images in a digital DSLR.
On this trip back home I didn’t want to carry too much gear and just enjoy the time, with my mum, I decided on Fuji 35mm 800 ASA colour film the type sports people would use, and a lot of these shots were taken on the Bus or the car, so they are ramdom images I saw and wanted to record.
This exhibition is an ode to Analogue cameras and Film, and street photography it’s great to be a tourist.
